For French 17-year-old rising star Aina Quach, getting to record a song written by songwriter/producer, Mikey Bassie, is like a dream come true. Mikey Bassie's song “Always” will be featured on Aina's debut album, What I Want, due out in June 2010. “The fact that Mikey gave such an incredible song he’s written to a new artist like me was truly the most humbling thing,” Aina says in her beautiful French accent. “Mikey has developed many new artist, he was willing to take a chance with me. I admire that.”
Aina describes her own music as fun and youthful while at the same time signifying deep meaning. "My music is about stories. Some of those stories can be meaningful and still be fun. I never choose a song that I can’t relate to in some way, shape, or form. My music will always reflect who I am.”
When asked about her first experience at Hook Shop Recording studio, she responded, “My producer was amazed at how well I did in the studio the first time. He said I was a natural! And was amazed at how quickly I learned the songs.”
Aina’s voice is very developed for a 17-year-old and her studio performance required no tuning. Despite this she always tries to improve and responds to constructive criticism in all areas. “You can be a performer and not be an artist, but I am an artist. I have spent time studying and researching everything I can about the music industry and becoming an artist. I am not only trying to perfect my songwriting skills and guitar and piano playing, but I am also developing my total package including my image and my stage presence, right down to learning how to read a teleprompter for special television appearances. This isn’t just a dream of mine, this is a goal that I am determined to achieve and I won’t give up.” Aina's biggest dream is to launch her humanitarian foundation when she reaches 18.
In addition to Mikey Bassie, Aina’s influences include Madagascar guitarist and mentor Eric Manana. She was introduced to his music at the tender age of 8 years old and was completely captivated by his voice and guitar playing.
While Aina’s heart is in music, she also credits pop singer Celine Dion as an influential role model. “Celine demonstrates love and incredible emotions for music that I understand and that I feel every time I hear her sing”, Aina says.
It is her hope that her music will provide a new means for her to give to all needy people. “I am very passionate about the conditions of the unfortunate children all over the world especially those in Madagascar where my mother was born,” she says, in addition Aina wants to give back to charitable organizations close to her heart such as UNICEF and the Red Cross. When asked why she has dedicated part proceeds of her Single, “Always” to the victims of the Earthquake in Haiti she responds, “ It's something that I did not need to think about, this is why I sing and that is what motivates me to go on. I would love to offer a concert in Haiti for the people”.
Aina is currently a student at the Academy Of Arts in France where she welcomes every opportunity to perform in a variety of places, from her hometown in Paris to the villages in Madagascar.
She has started to perform on bigger stages following her hometown performance of songs from her new album. She hopes to move to America after College and will be introducing her music and humanitarian work to new audiences. “I love to be on the Beach in Miami in this moment, but I have to complete high school and College. That is most important as I must make an example for kids who look up to me.” Aina also knows that, with God on her side, anything is possible for her to achieve her goals and make her dreams come true. “Everyone has dreams and goals,” she says. “music makes my dreams reality!”
